Matawai Station is located 70km west of Gisborne on the banks of the Waikohu River. The station and part of the transmission line is located on private farmland.
Originally owned by The Lines Company, the station is designed to run unattended and is maintained and operated by staff from the wider North Island Pioneer Energy Renewables team.
The Power Station consists of two generators and is connected to First Light Networks.
